Member-led plan · Hosted by Jeremy G Come along to an evening of social dancing with music from a touring American band! Contra dance is a folk dance similar to a ceilidh. It’s a rough cross between ceilidh and swing dance with an emphasis on flowing movements.

Each dance has a live band and a caller giving out instructions to the dancers. Playing at the dance will be Contra Sutra who are touring from the USA. No partner or experience is necessary. All calling is gender free. What to bring: Just lots of energy and enthusiasm! Wear something light and airy because contras can be energetic - you'll get warm quickly! Sensible footwear for doing loads of spins Bottle of water TImings 19:45 - Doors open 19:45-20:00 - Beginners Class 21:15 - Interval 23:00 - Contra ends Contra dancing is a little more technical than ceilidh. From 7.45-8pm there will be a short beginners class that will run through the basic dance moves. I recommend arriving for this if you are new to Contra. The venue is Faith Space Chapel, near Mary Redcliffe Church. It's close to Temple Meads and comes with free parking. There is an interval break half way through with cheese and crackers, tea, coffee and cordial. Please don't bring alcohol, as this is the venue rule.
